Panama Canal “Mule” – Panama Canal – Daily Photo
by Chris Christensen Add commentscategories: central america travel
This photo is looking out the side of a cruise ship heading into the Panama Canal from the Caribbean side. The large engine that is guiding the ship is one of the “mules”. Notice how little space there is between the ship and the wall of the canal. Many ships are built Panamax size, that is, the largest size they can be and still fit through the canal.

I had no idea that space was that tight when sailing through the Canal – hope to get there someday to see it for myself!

That’s actually the first thing I noticed in the picture – that it almost looks dangerous for the people sticking their heads out the window!

Panama is so amazing! I really want to take my kids for a visit to this country. I hope to do it before the year ends. The Panama Canal is definitely a place I want them to see!

Some excursions are good and otrehs???????Personally that sounds like something that would be better on tv. Watch a show on the building of the locks. They show everything. Walking around and seeing a bunch of dials and switches,,,, that really doesn’t turn me on.Sorry when we took our canal cruise, the ship was so late getting through we didn’t have time to stop at the port so I can’t give any alternatives.
